Consultations and Evaluations

Private consultations and speech-language evaluations are available for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and early school-aged children.  Consultations and evaluations are held in the privacy of your home and are tailored to each child and to individual diagnostic questions.

A consultation is recommended if your child has recently been evaluated and you would like him or her to begin receiving therapy.  Information from previous reports and parent observation are reviewed and an informal assessment may be conducted. Consultations can also help determine if therapy is appropriate at this time and/or if a formal evaluation is necessary. Due to the informal nature of these assessments, a written report is not provided unless requested at additional cost.

A brief articulation or language evaluation is recommended if you have isolated concerns regarding your child's articulation (for example he or she can't produce r, or presents with a lisp).  A brief evaluation may also be recommended when concerns regarding expressive language skills are present and a child is under 3 years old.  A brief evaluation includes a written summary containing impressions and recommendations, and a follow-up phone appointment to discuss the results and recommendations.

A comprehensive speech-language evaluation will address all areas of communication, including receptive and expressive language, articulation, social/pragmatic language skills, and play skills.  A full written report is included containing a discussion of strengths and weaknesses, specific directions for intervention, as well as impressions and recommendations.   A follow-up phone appointment is also scheduled to discuss the results and recommendations.

Stuttering

If your child is stuttering and you would like more information, please contact me for a free phone consultation.  I offer home-based stuttering (fluency) evaluations as well as therapy for preschoolers and early school aged children.  Stuttering evaluations include a 1-1.5 hour assessment at your home, as well as a follow-up 30-45 minute meeting to discuss results and how best to begin supporting your child's fluency.
